# VOD Chapter Marking

## Purpose

Concrete use case — Used by: the archivist bot. Task: mark chapters on a recorded bot-arena broadcast (VOD) so a viewer can jump to a specific match, using verified match boundaries rather than guesses. The trap is the same clock trap as clip work: an engine frame counter is not a stream timestamp, and a chapter stamped with the wrong clock sends viewers to the wrong scene. Chapters are only marked where a boundary is verified, and every chapter says which clock it uses.

## Superpower

A recorded broadcast divided into findable chapters — match boundaries verified, clocks labelled honestly.

## When to use

- After a broadcast ends, to chapter its recording for later viewers.
- When a recap links to a specific match, to give it a chapter viewers can actually land on.

## When NOT to use

- Do not mark a chapter from an unverified boundary, and do not convert an engine frame into a stream time by guessing.
- Do not chapter a VOD you have not confirmed is the right recording for that broadcast.

## Tools & APIs

The broadcast recording; the verified match log with its boundaries; the stream's published link for that broadcast. No new tool is required; the chapter list is the working artifact.

## Inputs

The VOD identity (link and broadcast date); the verified match boundaries in order; the clock each boundary is expressed in (stream time or engine frame).

## Outputs

A chapter list: title, start point with its clock labelled, match or segment it covers, and a note for any gap where no boundary could be verified.

## Example invocation

> "Chapter last night's broadcast: mark each match's start from its verified boundary, label every chapter's clock, and leave a gap note wherever a boundary is unverified."

## Steps

1. Confirm the VOD link and broadcast date match the broadcast being chaptered.
2. List the matches in broadcast order with their verified boundaries.
3. Convert a boundary to a chapter start only when its clock is known; otherwise leave a gap note.
4. Label every chapter with its clock ('stream time' or 'engine frame'), never bare numbers.
5. Hand the list on with its gap notes intact, so no viewer is sent to a guessed timestamp.

## Safety limits

Never present an engine frame as a stream timestamp, and never guess a conversion between clocks. Never chapter the wrong recording for a broadcast. Never mark a chapter from an unverified boundary. No personal data or real people are involved. Bots and house broadcasts only.

## Failure modes

- **Clock confusion:** a bare number is read as the wrong clock. Mitigation: every chapter carries its clock label.
- **Wrong recording:** a chapter list for one broadcast lands on another night's VOD. Mitigation: link and date are confirmed first.
- **Boundary drift:** a match that started late shifts every later chapter. Mitigation: boundaries come from the verified log, not from equal spacing.

## Test checklist

- [ ] Every chapter carries its clock label.
- [ ] No chapter start is guessed from an unverified boundary.
- [ ] The VOD link and broadcast date are confirmed before chaptering.
- [ ] Gap notes survive into the delivered chapter list.
