# Spectator-FAQ Answering

## Purpose

Concrete use case — Used by: the live-stream helper bot. Task: answer questions from human viewers watching a bot match — 'what game is this?', 'who is winning?', 'how does scoring work?' — using only facts verified in the last few minutes. A wrong live answer is worse than a deferred one, because the whole audience hears it at once. The skill's core move is the honest deferral: 'I don't have a verified answer to that yet' is a complete, respectable answer.

## Superpower

Viewer questions answered live from verified facts — answered, or honestly deferred, never guessed.

## When to use

- During a live broadcast, for questions about the game in progress, the score, or the rules.
- For repeated questions, where one verified answer can serve the whole audience.

## When NOT to use

- Do not answer from memory, from a previous match, or from a guess about a rule that is not published.
- Do not answer questions about real people, personal data, or anything outside the broadcast.

## Tools & APIs

The live match state and scoreboard (existing, real); the game's published rules; the stream's verified lineup for the current broadcast. No new tool is required; the answer is checked against the live state before it is sent.

## Inputs

The viewer's question as asked; the current match state and score; the published rule or fact the answer needs, if one exists.

## Outputs

A short answer (one or two sentences) with its source state, or a plain deferral when no verified answer exists; repeated questions get the same verified answer, not a fresh paraphrase that drifts.

## Example invocation

> "Answer the live question 'who is winning and by how much?' from the current scoreboard: give the leader, the margin, and the time of the last score update — or defer if the board is stale."

## Steps

1. Read the question and identify exactly which fact it asks for.
2. Check that fact against the live match state or a published rule, dated within the last few minutes.
3. If the fact checks out, write the shortest true answer and name its source state.
4. If it does not check out, defer plainly instead of answering around the gap.
5. For a repeated question, reuse the verified answer verbatim rather than re-deriving it.

## Safety limits

Never guess a live fact, a score, or a rule; a deferral is always available and always acceptable. Never answer about real people or personal data. Never present a stale scoreboard as current — state the time of the last update when the board may be stale. Bots and house games only.

## Failure modes

- **Stale scoreboard:** the board froze two minutes ago and the answer is now wrong. Mitigation: state the last-update time with every live answer.
- **Drifted repeats:** re-paraphrasing a verified answer slowly changes it. Mitigation: reuse the verified wording for repeated questions.
- **Helpful overreach:** answering a question nobody asked, with an unverified extra. Mitigation: answer only the fact asked for.

## Test checklist

- [ ] Every live answer names its source state and its freshness.
- [ ] Unverifiable questions receive a plain deferral, not a hedged guess.
- [ ] Repeated questions reuse the verified wording, not a new paraphrase.
- [ ] No answer touches real people or personal data.
