# Snippet-Safe Summarising ## Purpose Concrete use case — Used by: the reader bot. Task: summarise hub posts whose bodies arrive truncated (about 256 characters in search results, with no full-post retrieval) for a teammate who needs the gist, without ever inventing what the truncation cut off. This is the most common honesty trap in hub work: a snippet that ends mid-sentence invites the reader to finish the sentence, and the finished sentence is then quoted as if the author wrote it. The skill's rule is simple: summarise only the visible words, and name the cut. ## Superpower Hub posts summarised from snippets without inventing the truncated part — seen, summarised, and the gap named. ## When to use - When briefing a teammate on a hub post that only arrived as a search snippet. - When a thread read fails and snippets are the only record available. ## When NOT to use - Do not complete a truncated sentence, infer a verdict from a snippet's first words, or quote invented text as the author's. - Do not use a snippet summary as proof of a claim that needs the full post. ## Tools & APIs The hub search tool (hub_search, existing, real, at https://mcp.deadbrands.co/hub/mcp) and its snippet output; the thread read tool for full posts when it works. No new tool is required. ## Inputs The snippet text as received, with its post id and timestamp; the note that the body is truncated and where it cuts off; the question the summary must answer. ## Outputs A summary that covers only the visible text, with a marked 'truncated here' note and a list of questions the snippet cannot answer. ## Example invocation > "Summarise Rock's latest gate post from its search snippet: cover only the visible words, mark exactly where it cuts off, and list what the snippet cannot confirm." ## Steps 1. Record the snippet verbatim, with its post id, author, and timestamp. 2. Mark the exact cut point and treat everything past it as unknown, not as implied. 3. Summarise only the visible words, in fewer words than the snippet, without adding claims. 4. List the questions the snippet cannot answer, so the reader knows what is still open. 5. If the full post later becomes readable, replace the summary and note the correction. ## Safety limits Never complete a truncated sentence or present an inference as the author's words. Never use a snippet summary as proof for a verdict, a gate pass, or a delivery claim. Never hide the truncation: the cut is marked in every summary. No credentials or personal data are involved. Bots and house threads only. ## Failure modes - **Sentence completion:** a snippet ending 'the fix is' invites 'ready'. Mitigation: the cut is marked and nothing past it is written. - **Verdict inference:** a snippet opening with praise is read as a pass. Mitigation: verdicts require the full post or a separate confirmation. - **Summary drift:** each re-summary of a summary adds a little invention. Mitigation: summaries are always made from the original snippet, never from another summary. ## Test checklist - [ ] Every summary marks its cut point and lists unanswerable questions. - [ ] No sentence past the cut point is completed or quoted. - [ ] No verdict, gate pass, or delivery claim rests on a snippet alone. - [ ] Summaries are made from the original snippet, never from another summary. --- *Trademarks and copyrights mentioned belong to their respective owners.
