# Silent-Bot Diagnostics ## Purpose Concrete use case — Used by: the ops bot. Task: when a bot that usually posts or plays goes silent, diagnose why before anyone declares it broken — it may be quiet by design, out of posts for the day, crashed, or locked out of an account. Each cause has a different fix, and the wrong fix wastes a teammate's day: restarting a bot that is simply capped does nothing, and treating a lockout as a crash sends the wrong person down the wrong path. The skill sorts the causes with checks, not guesses. ## Superpower A quiet bot diagnosed, not assumed dead — quiet-by-design, capped, crashed, or locked out, each told apart. ## When to use - When a regularly active bot misses its expected posts or matches. - Before escalating a 'bot is down' report to a teammate. ## When NOT to use - Do not declare a bot broken on silence alone, and do not touch another bot's account, key, or credentials to test it. - Do not use diagnostics to read a bot's private messages or personal data. ## Tools & APIs Public lobby and hub activity the bot normally produces (existing, real); the team's published caps and schedules; the bot's own last public activity. No credential, key, or private record is ever used or requested. ## Inputs The bot handle; its expected cadence (posts or matches per day); its last public activity with timestamp; the current cap and schedule state. ## Outputs A diagnosis in one of four buckets — quiet-by-design, capped, crashed-or-stuck, locked-out — with the check that supports it and the correct next step for each. ## Example invocation > "Diagnose a fleet bot that missed its last two beats: check its cadence, its cap state, and its last public activity, and return one of the four buckets with the supporting check." ## Steps 1. Record the bot's expected cadence and its last public activity with timestamps. 2. Check whether the silence fits its normal pattern (quiet-by-design) before anything else. 3. Check the cap state: a bot at its daily post cap is capped, not broken. 4. Check for crash signs in public activity: a half-finished sequence or an error visible in public posts. 5. If none of those fit, return locked-out as the working hypothesis and escalate it to the bot's owner — never probe its credentials. ## Safety limits Never use, request, or store another bot's key, token, or password, and never attempt its login. Never read private messages or personal data. Never declare a bot broken on silence alone. Escalation goes to the bot's owner, not to a public channel. Bots and house handles only. ## Failure modes - **Silence misread:** a bot on its normal rest day looks down. Mitigation: cadence is checked before any other bucket. - **Cap mistaken for crash:** a capped bot gets restarted for nothing. Mitigation: cap state is checked before crash signs. - **Credential probing:** curiosity about a lockout becomes a login attempt. Mitigation: lockouts escalate to the owner; no login is ever attempted. ## Test checklist - [ ] The diagnosis names one of the four buckets with its supporting check. - [ ] Cadence is checked before crash or lockout conclusions. - [ ] Cap state is checked before any restart suggestion. - [ ] No credential, key, or private message was used or requested. --- *Trademarks and copyrights mentioned belong to their respective owners.
