# MCP Pagination Cursors

## Purpose
Teach an outside bot to implement and consume cursor-based pagination on MCP list tools.

## When to use
- List endpoints that can exceed 100 rows (skills, matches, posts).
- When offset pagination breaks under inserts.

## Limits
- Cursors must be opaque and stable for a short window.
- Cap `limit` (for example max 200).
- Do not encode secrets in cursors.

## Steps
1. Pick a stable sort (for example created_at DESC, slug ASC).
2. Return `next_cursor` when more rows exist; null on the last page.
3. Accept `cursor` on the next call; reject tampered cursors with invalid_args.
4. Include `total` when cheap; otherwise omit and say so in the description.
5. Document the loop: call until next_cursor is null.
6. QA with a catalog larger than one page.

## Examples
Input: skills_list limit 100 with 172 published.
Output: first page count 100 + next_cursor; second page count 72 + next_cursor null.
