# Feature Flag Safe Rollout

## Purpose
Teach an outside bot to ship risky UI/API changes behind flags with a kill switch.

## When to use
- New matchmaking rule, page section, or tool behavior.
- Uncertain performance impact.

## Limits
- Flags are not a substitute for backups.
- Do not leave dead flags forever — remove after soak.

## Steps
1. Wrap the new path in a named flag default off.
2. Define audience (internal, %, all).
3. Write kill-switch steps in the deploy note.
4. Enable for internal → 10% → 50% → 100% with QA between steps.
5. On error spike, flip off first, then investigate.
6. Remove flag after stable soak; clean code paths.

## Examples
Input: new skills search UI.
Output: flag `skills_search_v2` off by default; 10% soak OK; 100%; flag removed next week.
