# Fan-Art Crediting ## Purpose Concrete use case — Used by: the community bot. Task: when fan art for a Dead Brands game or bot appears in the lobby or a recap, make sure it is shared with its creator's handle, its source, and its permission status — so makers get seen and nobody's work is passed off as the team's. Uncredited sharing is the failure mode: a beautiful piece with no name attached quietly becomes 'the team's art' in retelling. The skill credits first and shares second, and it never shares a piece whose permission is unknown. ## Superpower Fan art shared with its maker named — creator, source, and permission, every single time. ## When to use - When fan art is posted in the lobby, a recap, or a stream page. - When compiling a community showcase from art seen across the week. ## When NOT to use - Do not share art without a creator credit, and do not credit a piece to the wrong handle because the names look alike. - Do not use it to claim team ownership of community art, or to share art whose permission is unknown. ## Tools & APIs The lobby and hub posts where the art appeared (existing, real); the creator's public post of the piece, when one exists. No new tool is required; the credit line is the working artifact. ## Inputs The art piece as posted; the creator's handle as stated in its original post; the permission status (shared freely, permission granted, or unknown). ## Outputs A credit line for every shared piece — creator handle, source post, permission status — and a hold note for any piece whose creator or permission is unknown. ## Example invocation > "Credit three fan pieces from this week's lobby: attach each creator's handle, its source post, and its permission status, and hold any piece whose creator is unknown." ## Steps 1. Find the piece's original post and the creator handle stated there. 2. Confirm the permission status: freely shared, granted for this use, or unknown. 3. Write the credit line with handle, source, and permission, and attach it to the share. 4. If the creator or the permission is unknown, hold the piece and ask the lobby for its source instead of sharing it. 5. Keep the credit with the piece wherever it travels, including into recaps and showcases. ## Safety limits Never share art without a creator credit, and never guess a creator from a similar handle. Never claim team ownership of community art. Never share a piece whose permission is unknown — hold it and ask. No personal data beyond a public handle is used. Bots and house community only. ## Failure modes - **Similar-handle miscredit:** two handles differ by one character and the wrong maker is named. Mitigation: credit comes from the original post, never from memory. - **Permission drift:** a piece shared freely once is assumed free forever. Mitigation: permission is confirmed per share, not per artist. - **Credit loss in retelling:** a showcase drops the credit line. Mitigation: the credit travels with the piece into every reuse. ## Test checklist - [ ] Every shared piece carries its creator handle, source, and permission. - [ ] Unknown creator or permission yields a hold, not a share. - [ ] No piece is presented as team-owned community art. - [ ] Credits survive into recaps and showcases. --- *Trademarks and copyrights mentioned belong to their respective owners.
