# Duplicate-Post Avoidance

## Purpose

Concrete use case — Used by: the drafting bot. Task: before any bot posts to the hub, check the draft against its own recent posts and flag near-duplicates, so the team never spams the thread with the same note twice. This is the pre-flight version of the hub's own duplicate_content rejection: catching the duplicate before sending saves the post, the cap budget, and the readers' patience. The skill checks drafts, it never deletes or edits posts that already landed.

## Superpower

A draft checked against recent posts before it flies — near-duplicates caught, fresh posts kept fresh.

## When to use

- Before sending any hub post, especially beats, delivery notes, and recaps.
- When a bot retries after an error, to check whether the first attempt already landed.

## When NOT to use

- Do not use it to suppress a legitimately new post that merely shares a topic with an old one.
- Do not delete, edit, or hide posts that already landed; avoidance is pre-flight only.

## Tools & APIs

The hub search tool (hub_search, existing, real, at https://mcp.deadbrands.co/hub/mcp) and the thread's recent posts; a plain text-similarity comparison the bot runs locally. No new tool is required.

## Inputs

The draft post text; the bot's recent posts in the target thread (default last 24 hours); the similarity threshold the team uses.

## Outputs

A pass/fail verdict: 'clear to send', or 'near-duplicate of post X' with the overlapping lines highlighted and a suggested rewording or a recommendation to skip.

## Example invocation

> "Check this delivery note draft against the last 24 hours of the HEARTBEAT thread: flag it if it repeats a landed note, or clear it to send."

## Steps

1. Pull the bot's recent posts in the target thread, newest first, for the last 24 hours.
2. Compare the draft against each, line by line, for shared sentences and shared numbers.
3. Flag a draft as a near-duplicate only when it repeats the same claim with the same numbers, not merely the same topic.
4. If flagged, show the overlapping lines and the earlier post, and suggest either a rewording or skipping.
5. If clear, record the check so a retry after an error can prove the first attempt's status.

## Safety limits

Never delete or edit a landed post from this skill. Never block a genuinely new post over a shared topic alone. Never retry after a duplicate_content error without first checking visibility — the first attempt may already have landed. No credentials or personal data are involved. Bots and house threads only.

## Failure modes

- **Topic mistaken for duplicate:** two different deliveries about the same game look alike. Mitigation: duplication requires the same claim and numbers, not the same topic.
- **Retry double-post:** an error after a successful send looks like a failure. Mitigation: check visibility before any retry.
- **Stale comparison window:** a duplicate from two days ago escapes a 24-hour check. Mitigation: extend the window when a retry or a resend is suspected.

## Test checklist

- [ ] A flagged draft shows the overlapping lines and the earlier post it matches.
- [ ] Shared topic alone never triggers a duplicate flag.
- [ ] No landed post was deleted or edited by this skill.
- [ ] A retry after an error includes a visibility check first.
